As real estate professionals, Sandra and Adrien have sought, since the creation of their agency, to support social initiatives related to housing.
On the advice of a friend, they met Ms. Daria Clay, Director of the Fondation Au Cœur des Grottes, and were immediately convinced by her energy, her vision, and the impact of her projects.
Since 1902, the Fondation Au Cœur des Grottes, based in Geneva, has provided a roof for women who are victims of violence and human trafficking, with or without their children.
Having become a foundation in 2006, it stands out for its long-standing expertise and its ongoing commitment to innovation in supporting its residents.

Mission and values
The foundation’s primary mission is to provide comprehensive, individualized support to women who are victims of violence, by offering them a safe place where they can regain security, dignity, and respect.
This commitment is reflected in support tailored to the specific needs of each woman and her children.
Areas of action
The Au Cœur des Grottes Foundation structures its work around six main areas:
- Social support: Provide emergency accommodation and administrative assistance to respond quickly and effectively to critical situations.
- Employment support: Promote women’s independence by offering French classes and vocational training, thereby supporting their reintegration into working life.
- Child support: Provide specific support for children, taking into account the trauma they have experienced and fostering their healthy development to protect their interests and ensure their well-being.
- Health support: Address the physical and psychological consequences of violence by offering appropriate medical and therapeutic follow-up, while taking into account the direct and indirect impacts of violence and insecurity on the mental and physical health of women and their children.
- Research and training: Collaborate with professionals and academic institutions to continually improve support practices and benefit from advances in research.
- Prevention and awareness-raising against human trafficking: Carry out prevention initiatives and raise public awareness of trafficking issues, drawing on expertise recognized at cantonal and federal level.
Profile of beneficiaries
In 2023, residents came from four continents, with a majority of women under the age of 40. They faced various forms of violence, including domestic violence and violence linked to human trafficking. The shelter also welcomes their children, providing an environment conducive to rebuilding their lives.
Support and involvement
The Au Cœur des Grottes Foundation operates thanks to the support of donors, volunteers, and institutional partners. Financial, material, or time contributions help maintain and develop the services offered to women and children in distress.
News and outlook
In 2023, the foundation consolidated its accommodation in a new building, providing a secure space for 65 women and their children. This initiative reflects the foundation’s determination to strengthen its capacity and improve beneficiaries’ living conditions.
